Takoradi police schooled on ECOWAS Brown Card

The Ghana National Bureau of the ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme has held a training workshop for Takoradi Police personnel at the premises of the Takoradi Shippers Council.

The training workshop focussed on underwriting and claims management of the Ecowas Brown Card Insurance Scheme as specified in the provisions of the scheme’s protocols.

Speaking to the media in Takoradi, the CEO/General Secretary of the Ghana National Bureau of the scheme, Mr. Gabriel Glover, outlined the important role Police play in ensuring compliance by motorists across the sub-region.

He explained the huge responsibility placed on the Ghana Police Service to check policyholders of Ecowas Brown Cards, which guarantee such policyholders adequate cover against motor vehicle third-party risks they incur in countries they visit.

“Capacity building seminars like this one for the Police Service on transport and trade facilitation is key to ensuring the free flow of goods and services across our national borders.

We are delighted to provide this educational programme to the Ghana Police Service in all the regions, because the scheme guarantees a motor insurance cover that leads to realisation of the free movement objectives of Ecowas,” Mr. Glover added.

The ECOWAS Brown-card Insurance Scheme was established following endorsement of the 1982 Protocol to enhance the inter-state transports by the Heads of Government of the Economic Community of West African States.

The Protocol as amended aims at facilitating free movement for the citizens of member-states and guaranteeing fair and prompt compensation for damages suffered by victims of road accidents involving international roads users.
