Akufo-Addo must not run for 2016 - Sekou

Dr. Sekou Nkrumah, son of Ghana’s first President says he does not expect Nana Addo to contest the 2016 presidential elections.

Dr. Sekou Nkrumah who supported the NPP in the run up to the 2012 elections stated that even though the first petitioner in the just ended election petition case is at liberty to contest again, he believes the party has very competent people to lead the party in the next elections.

“It’s his right to want to run again and he has to go through the NPP congress, but I don’t expect him to do so,” he added.

Dr. Sekou Nkrumah added that “knowing that he will be over 70 years by that time, and I think that might play very much against him”.

According to him, the party has more viable candidates, “yes leadership is important, but I think the NPP has equally strong candidates to hold the mantle”.

Meanwhile, Nana Addo announced a temporal break from politics after the court dismissed a petition he filled challenging the 2012 presidential elections.
