Nyaho lacks political experience – Osafo Maafo

Leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP),Yaw Osafo Maafo says the call for the resignation of the party’s General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie is misplaced.

According to him, such calls can only come from people who lack the experience and understanding about politics in Ghana.

Yaw Osafo Maafo was reacting to Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe’s call on the NPP scribe also known as Sir John to resign his position, after being convicted by the Supreme Court for contempt.

Sir John was fined GH¢5,000 for making scandalous comments about the court and asked to sign a bond of good behavoiur for six months.

Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe is of the view that Sir John has not only humiliated himself, but the NPP at large.

But speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem Friday, Yaw Osafo Maafo strongly disagreed with Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe.

He stated that the NPP will disregard the call and give Sir John the needed support.

Osafo Maafo contended that Sir John was not convicted for first degree felony therefore it does not debar him from holding a public office.

The NPP guru added that Sir John has shown remorse after the baptism of fire in court therefore, the party will not take any sanction against him.

He noted that the party is focused on the final verdict of the presidential election petition and thus will not allow anything to distract them.

Osafo Maafo said he personally reprimanded Sir John for the comments because "I believe he went too far".

He said Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe given his pedigree in the NPP, should have known better and used the party structures to express his grievance instead of doing it in the media.

Osafo Maafo who is also a founding Chairman of the Justice and Peace Foundation observed that, the sanctity of the judiciary is what they are seeking for and will not shield anyone who disrespects the Supreme Court.

He called on all Ghanaians especially members of the NPP to fast and pray for the judges to deliver a fair judgement.
