GH¢6.4m irregularities in claims at NHIA

The latest Auditor General’s report into the management of National Health Insurance (NHIA) claims has revealed irregularities in claims administration of some 6.4 million Ghana cedis.

The report revealed weak internal controls in vetting payment processes, leading to the irregularities in the management of the 6.4 million Ghana cedis.

The purpose of the audit was to find out whether NHIA is ensuring that structures put in place and funds allocated to the scheme were used well for the intended purposes.

The report says some District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme officials and health service providers took advantage of the weak internal control measures in place and outsmarted the system, resulting in huge financial loss to the NHIS.
