Mahama orders payments for 'frustrated students' abroad

President John Mahama has directed the ministers of Finance and Education to immediately make payment of outstanding arrears to frustrated Ghanaian students on scholarships abroad.

Students on government scholarships abroad have complained bitterly about their living conditions due to the inability of the government to settle their fees and other related expenditure.

But President Mahama at the last cabinet meeting instructed the ministers to settle all such debts.

Deputy Minister of Information and Media Relations, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, disclosed this to the media at the Flagstaff House on Thursday.

“His Excellency the President has directed that a number of actions be taken as a way of addressing in a holistic and in a comprehensive manner the issue of government scholarship.

He said: “The first directive issued to the Ministry of Education and Finance was for them to take urgent steps to ensure that all payments due to Ghanaian students studying abroad on government of Ghana scholarships are made”.
