SMEs in Volta Region need funding

The National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI) has for the past four years not been able to secure funds from the Micro Finance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) to support Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the Volta Region.

Mr. Ransford Kani, a Senior Project Officer of the NBSSI, told the GNA in Ho that this has led to the collapse of viable enterprises while others are struggling to survive, worsening the unemployment situation in the region.

He said the worst-affected entities are food processing enterprises, adding that, though six enterprises that received loans from MASLOC through the NBSSI had repaid money they took, the Board did not get more support.

Mr. Kani said NBSSI is negotiating with the Ghana Commercial Bank for a loan package to revive the SMEs.
