PIE announces $50K budget for Ghana schools

June 21, 2013 Houston, TX, and Herndon, VA.

The Board of Directors of Progress in Education (“PIE’) has approved a program budget of $60,000 for the Fiscal year starting August 1, 2013.

According to Dr. Sybil Pentsil, Chairman of the Board, approximately $50,000 will be used to provide computers and science resources to secondary schools in Ghana. In continuation of PIE’s 2012 USA initiative, $10,000 was voted to fund scholarships for college-bound students in the United States of America.

The allocation of the general program budget (Ghana) on a regional basis is as follows:

Funding for the program budget is obtained from fundraisers, such as the upcoming July 6, 2013 DC Gala at the Holiday Inn College Park.

Since 2000, PIE has donated computers, science materials and books worth over $170,000 to enable thousands of students in over 50 schools in Ghana experience hands-on learning in technology and the sciences. PIE has also facilitated a visit to Ghana by students from the USA and funded a $10,000 scholarship program through The Houston Area Urban League. PIE is a 501(c) 3 charitable organization established in August 2000 to help bring much needed educational resources to secondary schools in Ghana, and to promote cross-cultural understanding amongst students in the USA and Ghana
