Govt to deal with cable theft menace

Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Communication, has pledged government’s readiness to deal with the cable theft menace, which continues to affect the quality of telecom services nationwide.

He said the National Security Agency was putting in place measures to, as a matter of urgency, curtail such occurrences.

Dr Omane Boamah, who was addressing the press after a closed-door meeting with the management of Tigo and Expresso during a tour of their facilities on Wednesday, expressed Government’s readiness to partner with all telecommunication companies to ensure that Ghanaians enjoyed the best of services.

He appealed to telecom operators to put in place measures to ensure that they extended their services to rural areas to enable all Ghanaians to benefit from mobile connectivity.

Dr Omane Boamah said Government had voted 37 million Euros for the construction of fixed broadband facilities in some parts of the country to improve ICT and telecommunication services.

He appealed to subscribers, who are not satisfied with services provided by their network operator, to port their numbers to other networks.

Mr Adil El Yousseffi, General Manager, Tigo, expressed satisfaction about issues discussed during the meeting and thanked the Minister for his visit.

At Expresso, Mr El Amir Ahmed El Amir Yussif, Chief Executive Officer, Expresso, said the company was working assiduously to ensure that it became the leading inter-data service provider in the country.
