Investigate Mills’ death and leave Akufo-Addo alone - Boabeng Asamoah

A Deputy Director of Communication of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Boabeng Asamoah, says Nana Akufo-Addo should be commended for making public his health condition.

According to him, gone were the days where a president travels outside the country for medical check up and the entire nation is told he is gone for an official duty.

The NPP flagbearer was on Tuesday June 4 flown out to the United Kingdom for a routine medical checkup. He will also attend to other businesses whilst away.

His absence especially in court has spark speculations on social media that he [Akufo-Addo] is terminally ill.

A publication by the Herald newspaper had alleged that Nana Akufo-Addo prior to his trip suffered a heart attack and had to be rushed, first to the Akai House Clinic and later referred to the Cardio Centre at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for emergency treatment.

But on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme on Thursday, Yaw Boabeng Asamoah denied the allegation that Nana Akufo-Addo is ill.

He stated that such frivolous claims are part of the grand scheme of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to divert attention from the Presidential Election Petition.

The deputy Communication Director said Nana Akufo-Addo is "very fit" but is only attending to very important businesses abroad and will soon return and join the petitioners in full force.

He noted that rather than wasting its time on Nana Addo, government should rather investigate the circumstances surrounding the demise of the late President John Evans Atta Mills.

Boabeng Asamoah said it is barely a year since John Mills died, and to him, the best gift government can offer Ghanaians is to tell them the exact cause of his death.

He maintained that the late Atta Mills was a public asset, therefore, what killed him cannot be a private issue limited to his family alone.

The NPP man intimated that the apparent attempts by the government to shroud in secrecy the chain of events that led to the death of President Mills is sickening.

Boabeng Asamoah said going by the preponderance of public sentiment, Ghanaians are of the view that the cause of the death of late Atta Mills is of public interest.
