Government commends Security Agencies, traditional rulers

Mr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Deputy Minister of Information and Media Relations, on Monday, commended security agencies in the Ashanti Region for restoring peace and tranquility to Kumasi and its environs in the wake of events over the past weeks.

He also commended traditional authorities in the region for their cooperation and contribution towards the sustenance of peace.

Mr Mohammed gave the commendation during the daily media briefings at Flagstaff House in Accra.

Kumasi and its environs had a couple of weeks ago been hit by a number of killings and general insecurity, resulting in the deployment of more security personnel to the region to contain the situation.

The deputy minister said although calm had returned to the metropolis, government would continue to play its role by supplying all the necessary logistics to enhance the performance of the security personnel and other stakeholders.

On the menace of illegal mining in the country, he said the government would continue the ongoing agenda to its logical conclusion, and called on the chiefs, and other stakeholders, to contribute their quota towards the elimination of the practice.

Mr Mohammed commended all stakeholders in the matter for playing their roles meaningfully, and promised that the government will resource them adequately to effectively carry out their duties.

The deputy minister announced that the monthly Ghana Armed Forces exchange was effected on Monday as the Ghana Army, who performed last month, handed over to the Ghana Airforce.
