Victory without unity is useless - Kennedy tells NPP

Member of Parliament for Assin Central in the Central Region, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has stated that the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) quest for victory will not be possible if the disunity and rancor within the party is not quickly resolved.

According to him, there are serious problems within the national, regional, through to the constituency and among polling station executives in the country.

He stressed that the situation where party loyalists were unable to voice out pertinent issues because of fear has been the bane of the party to win power.

The MP noted that these unattended disputes made the NPP lose the 2012 general elections.

Mr. Agyapong disclosed this in Cape Coast on Monday, when the Central Regional Youth Wing (CRYW) of the opposition NPP held its first educative outdoor program to sensitize its constituents on the ongoing election petition case in the Supreme Court, and the state of the party.

The program, which is the first of its kind in the country, attracted highly ranked national and regional executives of party.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Agyapong cited the executives of the Central Region who face serious wrangles, and called on the regional chairman, to hurriedly attend to the differences among the executives since it would tarnish the image of the NPP in the region.

"The differences among executives in the Central Region made NPP, just in four years, lose 9 more seats out of 15 to the NDC. Why should this happen? Some of our executives are selfish and greedy," he said.

"Today, I am telling you, read my lips, if these disagreements are not addressed, NPP will not win any election in the region; because some of the executives are there only for their selfish gains," he added.

He, however, appealed with the constituency members, polling station executives and members of the NPP, to elect executives who have the party at heart and were ready to work hard for the party's victory in any election.

The outspoken MP stated further that, because the NPP was divided, the party had not planned of restructuring to mount another campaign to win an election, should there be a second round by the Supreme Court’s ruling.

Speaking on the ongoing court case, Mr. Agyapong revealed that the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, also known as General Mosquito, had really proven that the free education mantra of the NPP was possible to produce quality leaders like the key witness of the petitioners, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

He indicated that the lack of education made General Mosquito commit himself on several counts to support the case of the petitioners.

Mr. Agyapong, therefore, urged the group to remain calm and resolute, since to him, no matter what the ruling may be, victory will be for the NPP in the election petition.

On his part, the former MP for Asokwa and Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly boss, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, expressed worry about the attitude of the lead counsel for the respondents, Mr. Tsatsu Tsikata, saying, he is the worse lawyer Ghana has ever had after independence.

To him, Mr. Tsikata's practice as a lawyer had expired and could be detected through his cross examination.

He could not understand why the NDC appointed him to lead them.

Mr. Jumah, however, revealed that he would lead a cause to seek peace and justice for Ghanaians before and after the Supreme Court’s verdict.

"Where there is peace; there should be justice. If there is no peace; there is no justice and the vice versa. Therefore, I will lead a fight for justice and peace in our country," he stated.
