Gov't under pressure to publish details on oil & mining contracts

Pressure is mounting on government to publish all mining and oil contracts as well as the use of all revenue from the extractive industry.

Ghana has been ranked 15th out of 58 countries that have undertaken major reforms to improve transparency in the mining sector.

Although Ghana had the highest score in sub-Saharan Africa on the new mining index, it was criticised for not publishing all mining and oil contracts.

Ghana was also challenged to pass the freedom of information law to guarantee access to information on the oil and mining sector.

The Executive Director of the African Centre for Energy Policy, Mohammed Amin Adam. said government must comply with transparency protocols it has signed to manage the expectations.
