Sack incompetent officials - NPP member

A Leading member of the NPP in the Brong Ahafo Region, Nana Obiri-Boahen, has stressed the need for the government to weed out its officials holding various positions and portfolios if they prove to be incompetent.

He said when the square pegs in round holes in the government are replaced, it will whip up the confidence of the electorate and thereby, brighten the party?s chances of sweeping the 2004 general elections.

Nana Boahen made the call on Tuesday, when he addressed a forum organised by the Sunyani Polytechnic Branch of the NPP as part of activities commemorating the 10th anniversary of the party.

Speaking on the topic ?NPP is 10 years old. The way forward.?,Nana Boahen said the NPP has gone through difficult times but due to the loyalty, hard work and dedication to duty by members, the party has been able to stand the test of times.

He advised the party executives, loyalists, activists and supporters not to use the celebration of the 10th anniversary celebration for merry making alone, but try to protect the 1992 Constitution from nation wreckers.

Nana Boahen implored ministers of state, NPP MPs, District Chief Executives and Opinion Leaders who belong to the party to strive not to lord it over the masses but should see themselves as part of the grassroots since they have power to vote out or retain the party in power.

He urged the government to remain focussed and not to be daunted by the false and vicious campaigns being peddled by the NDC.

The leading NPP member also implored the government to use the media, especially the state owned ones ,to explain its policies to the masses as that will help all Ghanaians to continue to have confidence and trust of the party.

Mr. Seth Asare, popularly known as Nana Ananse, Chairman of the Sunyani Polytechnic Branch of the Tertiary Education Students Confederacy (TESCON) of the NPP said the 2000 victory should galvanise the party to strive to retain power for several years.

He advised all students in tertiary institutions who are sitting on the fence to join TESCON in order to push the NPP forward.
