Work on Light Industrial Area to begin soon

The proposed Kansaworodo Light Industrial Area is estimated to cost GHC1.3 million, Mr. Peter Kow Obosu, a contractor of the project said on Tuesday.

He was speaking at a one-day workshop on advocacy, organized by the Tanokrom Zone of the Ghana National Association of Garages (GNAG) at Sekondi.

The Business Sector Advocacy Challenge Fund (BUSAC) sponsored the workshop.

Mr. Obosu, who is the Director of Peekob Company, said the project will be undertaken by the Western Development Consortium.

He said the consortium has negotiated for a 57 acre land at Kansaworodo for the project and constructional works would take off as soon the land is paid for.

Mr. Obosu said the consortium has already paid GHC150,000 as compensation to 36 individuals whose farms and properties would be affected by the project.

He said artisans at the Tanokrom Kokompe Light Industrial Area will be relocated to Kansaworodo on completion of the project there.

Mr. Obosu said the artisans at Tanokrom would have to be relocated to make way for the construction of a GHC100 million shopping mall complex.

Mr. Jonathan Kwamina Kwadzie, Western Regional Chairman of GNAG, said the land for the project at Kansaworodo would be registered in the name of the association.

He said no member of the association would be allowed to put wooden structures at the Kansaworodo Light Industrial Area which would be a permanent site for the association.

Mr. Kwadzie said all members of the association would have to wear overall and safety boots at the industrial area.
