NDC chairman beats organiser unconscious

The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) constituency chairman for Kwahu South, Mr. Emmanuel Atta Obeng, is in the grips of the Mpraeso police for slapping his constituency Women’s Organiser, Madam Sekina Norshe, with his sandals, which sent the woman to the ground and rendering her temporarily unconscious.

Chairman ‘Saborai’, as he is affectionately called by members of the NDC in the area, according to information gathered by The Chronicle, removed the sandals he was wearing, and slapped the poor Women’s Organiser without any provocation.

Narrating her ordeal to the paper, Madam Norshe explained that the regional secretariat of the party organised a meeting at the regional office about three weeks ago to discuss and find solutions to post election challenges, as well as the upcoming elections of the party.According to her, the said meeting was attended by the Constituency Chairman and the Secretary, where they were ordered to organise similar meetings within the constituency.

The Women’s Organiser, who further told The Chronicle that some items, including T-shirts, NDC branded exercise books, and flags among others, were also given to the chairman to be shared among the constituency executives, but he hijacked them (items).

Based on this, she went to the residence of the chairman in the company of the Constituency Organiser to find out why he (chairman) had not organised the said meeting, and his failure to share the items.

She noted that though she asked her question in a low tone, Mr. Obeng became furious and retorted whether she (Norshe) knew that he was the chairman of the party, and could decide what to do at any time, without any consultation.

According to her, she also responded that the party was made up of groups of people, and not one particular person, but the chairman again, did not take kindly to her remark, and warned that the next time she made such a remark, she would suffer for it.

Norshe alleged that before she could open her mouth to make any further comment, her chairman had already removed his sandals and slapped her with it on the face. The impact of the slap was so heavy that she fell down and became temporarily unconscious.

She noted that but for the timely intervention of the Constituency Organiser she would have died, because the Chairman was preparing to launch another attack on her.

The case has since been reported to the Mpraeso Police, who have given her a medical form to seek treatment.

The station officer of the Mpraeso police station, Chief Inspector Dan Brew, confirmed the report when reached on his cell phone, but directed this reporter to a certain Detective Chief Inspector Boadu for further details.

Mr. Emmanuel Atta Obeng, on his part, told The Chronicle in a telephone contact that since the case had been reported to the regional secretariat of the party, he was not prepared to comment until he had received instructions to do so.
