Ken Agyapong rubbishes Sir John's assassination theory

Outspoken New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong has said that if any person suspects foul play in Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s near-fatal accident, his driver must be queried as well.

Dr. Bawumia was involved in a serious accident on Sunday when the car he was in burst two tyres and somersaulted several times.

The General Secretary of the NPP, Sir John, has accused officials of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of plotting to assassinate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Speaking on Adom FM Tuesday morning, candid Kennedy Agyapong twisted the plotting issue raised by his party general secretary and called on the party to query the driver since he was in charge of the vehicle.

“I don’t support what Sir John has said...we are joking; if such accusations are made you will never know where the main problem is coming from. It’s too quick for him (Sir John) to jump into conclusion and accuse the NDC. I don’t believe in those things, we must investigate first before coming out with any comment. He (Sir John) is not just any other person but a whole General Secretary of a political party with massive followers. This issue shouldn’t be politicised, that wouldn’t help. It is about time we stopped this,” he advised.

“First of all, they (the NPP) have to check the company of the vehicle, maybe there might be a major fault from the manufactures. But here in Ghana we don’t normally do that, provided you have your car, you are done. There might be foul play too; you can’t rule that one out but if there was foul play and someone tampered with the tyres, where was the driver? The driver after dropping Bawumia must be in the car 24/7.

“It can also be just an accident because that happens all the time, it happened to me as well. I had a flat tire when cruising in my Rolls Royce and someone prompted me to be cautious. It would have been bad news for me. It’s unfortunate but I will console my good friend Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, I think that such an unfortunate accident can happen to anyone. He (Bawumia) should just accept that as an accident."

According to Ken Agyapong, he does not want to read meanings into the accident and even if there was foul play, Bawumia being alive is a manifestation from the Lord to make him president of the nation some years to come.

“We should just thank God he (Bawumia) has escaped from this. I don’t want to believe the accident was plotted but at the same time, we all have to tread cautiously. This should be a lesson. If there was foul play, drivers who drive any official must be vigilant. Sometimes you will come out of a meeting and your driver [is] nowhere to be found. They must be vigilant and this should be a lesson to the drivers as well,” he advised.
