Conflict of interest at GEPC; BIA calls for probe

The Bureau of Internal Affairs (BIA), has called for a probe into a conflict of interest by Mr Kwadwo Owusu Agyeman, former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ghana Export Promotion Council (GEPC).

A statement issued by BIA in Accra and copied to the Ghana News Agency said Mr Agyeman ceased to be the CEO of GEPC when he was appointed Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources under the late President John Evans Atta Mills regime yet, he attended Export Development Investment Fund board meetings.

Although the Board Chairman of the Council had written a letter to stop him from attending such meetings, he had ignored it.

The statement said Mr Agyeman’s behaviour had not gone down well with a cross-section of the workers.

BIA is therefore calling on authorities to reverse the anomaly to allow management run the council effectively.

“BIA is of the view that any transactions conducted at board meetings and allowances collected by the former CEO must be reversed and refunded to the State.”

The Bureau also called for a probe as to why the substantive CEO is not attending board meetings and Mr Agyeman still represents the council at all levels.

BIA is an anti-corruption organisation and also serves as a centre for information gathering on public concerns with the aim of bridging the communication gap between the public and the authorities on issues negatively affecting the nation.
