Chief welcomes reshuffle of regional ministers

President John Dramani Mahama’s reshuffle of regional ministers has attracted mixed reactions in the Volta Regional capital, Ho.

The President in what is being referred to as his first ministerial reshuffle moved Madam Helen Ntoso from the Volta Region to the Eastern Region and Nii Afotey Agbo from Greater Accra to the Volta Region.

Togbe Dadzawa III, Paramount Chief of Shia Traditional Area, commended President Mahama for the reshuffle and welcomed Nii Afotey Agbo to the Volta Region.

He said was optimistic that Nii Agbo would bring accelerated development to the Region and called for support from all.

“I embrace the President’s reshuffle. It is a good decision and I wish a similar thing be done for District Chief Executives or they be elected,” Togbe Dadzawa said.

Madam Ellen Allai, Volta Regional Director of the Department of Women, said though President Mahama’s reshuffle was positive, she would have loved to have a woman Regional Minister.

“Since the creation of this Region, we’ve not had a woman Regional Minister so it will just be nice to have one,” she said.

Madam Allai said a woman Regional Minister would make positive impacts on the gender landscape of the Region by inspiring young ladies and women to go into politics.

Madam Felicia Dorcas Acquaku, a political activist, said the Region would miss Madam Ntoso, but could also not wait too long for Nii Agbo to come and help develop the Region.

“Historically, there is a record of good performance for Ministers who come from outside the Region, so we pray Nii Agbo would follow the trend.

“When Colonel John Kabore and Gilbert Seidu Iddi served as Regional Ministers here, they left good records with Kabore establishing the Kabore School Complex. These are the things we want and cannot wait for Nii Agbo,” she said.

Mr Samuel Kwawukume, a Management Consultant, said apart from the fact that the reassigned ministers would take time to know their new local terrains, the idea was good.
