I am innocent of corruption charges - Kweku Botwe

The Acting Managing Director of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), Kweku Botwe, has dismissed claims he has been indicted for misappropriating funds and participating in several acts of corruption.

A newspaper publication on Monday reported that the Acting MD, Kweku Botwe, had been indicted for massive corruption, misappropriation of funds and mismanagement at the GWCL.

According to the publication, the acts came to light following a ministerial probe initiated by the then Minister for Water Resource, Works and Housing, Hon. E.T. Mensah.

In response to the report however, Mr. Botwe pointed out that, “there was never a probe that was set up. The Minister in his own wisdom decided that he should set up a fact finding committee to look into certain issues with a clear cut terms of preference; it was not a probe.”

He accused the media of publishing false information and misleading reports about him.

“If you look at the material, the story says that some monies cannot be accounted for but in the body of the report, it has said that it has to be reconciled; so the question you ask is, how do you judge? How do you come to a conclusion that something is wrong when you are saying that the issue has not been properly evaluated?” he asked.

Mr. Botwe further questioned how he, as an individual, can get "that money out of the system without a trail?”

He therefore called on the media and persons in high position to divulge only true information to the public and be a “bit more sincere and genuine… irrespective of our position, whether you are a Minister, or whoever, you don’t have the right to wrongly accuse people; it is just not right.”
