Constituents will accept my position - Mumuni

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Kumbungu constituency in the Northern Region, Alhaji Muhammad Mumuni, has indicated that his constituents will accept his new appointment as the Secretary General of the Africa Caribbean Pacific (ACP) group of states in good faith because he has served them well over the years.

Alhaji Mumuni, who was Ghana’s former Foreign Affairs Minister, has been appointed as the Secretary General of the ACP group of states to serve the unexpired term of Dr Mohammed Ibn Chambas.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Friday, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP mentioned that he has duly paid his dues to his constituents and therefore his appointment which demands that he resigns as a MP will in no way affect the development of his constituency.

According to him, his constituents in Kumbungu “clearly will be quite elated about the prospects of me carrying the flag of our country, carrying their flag into the multilateral diplomacy which is really the mandate of the ACP".

Alhaji Mumuni also noted that he is inspired and humbled by the appointment “and I would like to justify that confidence.”

He pledged to justify the confidence entrusted in him by President John Mahama and other Heads of State of the ECOWAS region for his appointment and also promised to continue with the hard work and accomplishment of his predecessor “and I would like to really fit my small feet into the big shoes that he is leaving behind for me. For me it is quite challenging but I welcome the responsibility. It is service to my country, service to my people and service to my continent.”
