Desailly: I still want to coach Ghana

Ex-France captain Marcel Desailly still harbours the ambition of coaching the Ghana national team.

The 44-year-old was one of the shortlisted candidates for the Black Stars job when it became vacant after Serbian Milovan Rajevac had left in 2010.

The 1998 World Cup winner however withdrew from the contest citing the excessive delay of the process in appointing the new Ghana coach.

Desailly again was reportedly the favourite to land the job as the replacement of Goran Stevanovic following Ghana’s disappointing finish at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

His appointment again never materialized with then assistant coach Akwasi Appiah graduating as the substantive Ghana boss.

Despite the disappointments, the former Marseille, AC Milan and Chelsea defender says he still looks forward to the day he will be able to share his experience gathered abroad as coach of the Black Stars.

”I hope to give back the experiences I have had with France as coach of Ghana one day,” he said.

Desailly, born to Ghanaian parents, had a successful club career with Olympique Marseillle, AC Milan and Chelsea.

He also won the World , European and Confederations Cups in 1998, 2000 and 2001 as a France international.
