Man, 39, attempts suicide

But for the timely intervention of neigbours at Akuadjoo near Nkawkaw, Yaw Debrah, a 39-year-old-unemployed, would have taken his own life by cutting his throat with a kitchen knife.

Debrah is on admission at the Holy Family Hospital at Nkawkaw.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency (GNA), an Nkawkaw Police source said Debrah lived with his mother at Akuadjoo and that he had been drinking heavily for the past one month.

The source said Debrah had been complaining of sleepless nights and nightmares as a result of which he went for some herbs to boil and drink to solve his “problem.”

At midnight on February 23, Debrah’s mother heard him screaming in his room and quickly called her eldest son who took Debrah to his room.

The source said his brother went out and returned a short while but did not meet Debrah in the room and so went out searching for him.

While on the search, he heard some shouts and went to that direction only to see Debrah with a deep cut in his throat with blood oozing all over his body.

He took him to the Holy Family Hospital and later reported the case to the Nkawkaw police.

The police source said Debrah was responding to treatment and investigations are ongoing.
