Galamsey operator remanded for stealing motorbike

The Juaso Circuit court has remanded a Galamsey operator, Abdullai Gafaru, into prison custody for stealing a motorbike valued at GHc4,000.00.

His accomplice, Dauda Salam was granted bail in the sum of GHc5,000.00.

They were charged with stealing and abetment of crime respectively and would reappear before the court on February 22.

Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Y. O. Asubonteng told the court presided over by Mr. Alex Obeng Asante that the complainant, Martin Tough, is a butcher at Ejisu whereas the two accused persons are residents of Sepe Tinpom in Kumasi.

He said the complainant on December 18th last year at about 2130 hours, parked his Honda motorbike with registration number M-12-AS 3658 at his house and went to bed.

He said the next morning, at about 0330 hours, the complainant realized the bike had been stolen and made a report to the Police.

Meanwhile, Gafaru, who had committed the crime, approached Salam to look for a buyer, promising to reward him after selling the bike.

Salam succeeded in selling the bike at a cost of GHc800.00 out of which he was given GHc200.00 as his share of the proceeds.

On January 28, the complainant spotted the bike in the possession of the new owner and reported to the Police who retrieved it.

Further investigations led to the arrest of the accused persons who were subsequently arraigned.
