Volta Association swears in a new President

The finest of fashion was displayed on December 29th, 2012 when members, family and friends of the Volta Association came to support the in-coming President, Mr. Chris Nuworsoo. The fun-filled evening started in grand style with a warm welcome introduction by Ms. Abla Toffa. The celebrations continued with a speech by the outgoing President, Dr. Doris Dzameshie, who thanked members and their families for giving her the opportunity to serve the Association. She highlighted some of the projects that were completed during the two years of her administration which included:



1. Revamped the Association’s website, including adding more features to the site.

2. Reviewed the welfare document and increased benefits while the dues remained unchanged.

3. Organized the Association’s first back to school program for the youth

4. Completed the association’s demographic database

5. Implemented the zip code coordination program

6. Published the Association’s first annual calendar

7. Increased the participation of the youth in the administration of the Association.

As a follow up to the achievements of the out-going administration, the Executive Director of the CEANA (Council of Ghanaian Associations in North America), Mr. William Adzimahe, appealed for funds to continue the back to school program.

The highly entertaining evening continued with the swearing-in ceremony by Rev. Dr. Peter Agbelie assisted by Rev. Father Francis Annig Amoah. The mantle of office, a file, was handed over by the out-going President, Dr. Doris Dzameshie, to the in-coming President, Mr. Chris Nuworsoo.



In his acceptance speech, Mr. Chris Nuworsoo revealed that his vision for the Association is to encourage an all-inclusive group. He added that he would have an open door policy where all would be regarded as equal partners. He thanked the outgoing president for her work and appealed for the support of Association members/family and friends and the entire community.

Other highlights of the evening included traditional dances by the Volta Ensemble (the youth wing of the association), led by Adzo Eseli Nutakor. This was followed by a dancing competition. Mr. Bismarck Adrigbatey received the best male dancer certificate, while Ms. Enyonam Kuleke Thompson received the best female dancer certificate. In the kid’s category, the best Azonto dancer certificate went to Ms. Jasmine Anaman Quarcoo.

Prizes and awards were also given to various community leaders as below.

1. The zip code coordination project award went to Mrs. Charity Abiew

2. Back to school project award went to Ms. Vivian Ocloo

3. Virginia coordination project award went to Mr. David Aku

The 2012 Christmas party/swearing in ceremony was labeled one of the best in the history of the Association. A fact made significant during the presentation of the class of 2012. A total of 16 new members had joined the association. This presentation depicted the evidence of a more vibrant association.

The program ended with all dancing away the memorable evening.
