Mahama pledges to support Black Stars

President John Dramani Mahama has promised government's full support for the Ghana Football Association in rebuilding the Black Stars team after their exit from the 2013 AFCON tournament in South Africa.

President Mahama said “government will work with the Ghana Football Association on a team rebuilding exercise to ensure the Black Stars takes its pride of place in the rankings of African soccer.”

“This government will work with the GFA to carry out a post mortem on what happened and take the corrective measures to restore the Black Stars to their place of glory.”

President Mahama also congratulated the senior national team for their efforts and resilience in the semi-final match against Burkina Faso on Wednesday.

President Mahama made these comments at the ceremony to mark the relocation of the seat of government from the Osu Castle to the Flagstaff House.

The Black Stars of Ghana failed to reach the final of the 29th edition of the AFCON after a humbling penalty shoot-out loss to the Stallions of Burkina Faso.

Ghana will play Mali in a third place encounter on Saturday.
