Prof. Ayee heads Emeka Anyaoku Commonwealth Studies

Professor Joseph Atsu Ayee, Rector of Mountcrest University College (MCU) in Accra has been appointed to head the Emeka Anyaoku Visiting Chair of Commonwealth Studies at the University of London.

A statement signed by Mr Kwaku Ansa-Asare Chief Executive of MCU and issued to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Monday said the appointment is for six months.

It said Prof. Ayee is the first African appointed to the prestigious Chair, named in honour of Chief Emeka Anyaoku who served as Commonwealth Secretary-General from 1990 to 2000.

It explained that the position offered the opportunity to undertake research at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies, University of London, the only postgraduate academic institution in the United Kingdom (UK) which is devoted to the study of the Commonwealth.

The statement expressed the hope that the Emeka Anyaoku Visiting Chair would help to build strong long-term links between UK higher education institutions and those in other Commonwealth nations.

Prof. Ayee will return to Ghana briefly to deliver the 46th J.B. Danquah Memorial Lectures being organized by the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences, scheduled for February 25 to February 27, 2013 under the theme, “Leadership and the Ghanaian State Today: Reflections and Perspectives”, the statement said.
