Local Gov’t Minister must investigate boundary disputes in Accra – La residents

The La Dadekotopon Municipal Assembly has called on the Ministry of Local Government And Rural Development to investigate the numerous boundary disputes between the assembly and the Ledzekuku-Krowor Municipal Assembly (LEKMA).

According to the La Citizens Network Country Coordinator, Nii Yemo Yemofio, the Ledzekuku-Krowor Municipal Assembly had consistently pushed the original boundaries to the Accra shopping mall and the Kpeshie lagoon area thereby sliding into La Dadekotopon Municipal area.

He said their action is in breach the Supreme Court’s verdict that rejected the claim by LEKMA that the Accra shopping mall and its environs were under their assembly.

“There is a difference between Local Government boundaries and traditional boundaries. When you talk about traditional boundaries, it goes beyond local government boundaries so it seems LEKMA has a problem with the Tema Municipal Assembly, the same LEKMA has a problem with the Adentan Municipal Assembly and the same LEKMA has a problem with Ashiaman so we don’t know why they want to claim every area.”

Mr. Yemofio appealed to the parties involved in these land disputes to abide by the Supreme Court ruling. He also called on the Local Government Minister, Akwasi Oppong Fosu to intervene by indicating the real demarcation “of LEKMA for its operations and if he fails, we the citizens of La will march our way out to clear our boundaries”
