Meningitis kills four people in Upper West Region

Meningitis have so far killed four persons out of the total 12 cases recorded in Upper West Region this year.

Two of the deaths were recorded at health facilities in the Jirapa District while Lawra and Nadowli District health facilities recorded one death each.

Mrs Justina Zoyah, Regional Disease Control Officer made this known during a media sensitisation programme on the Post LLINs “Keep it up” Campaign in Wa on Thursday.

Out of the 12 cases, four were recorded in the Jirapa District while Lambussie-Karni, Lawra and Wa West Districts accounted for two cases each with Nadowli and Wa East Districts netting one case each.

The deaths were recorded after the Region embarked on a mass vaccination against meningitis ‘A’ type last year.
