Galamsey operator jailed 7 years for defilement

Tarkwa circuit court has sentenced a twenty-seven-year-old galamsey operator, Raymond Assimadi, to 7 years imprisonment for defiling a fourteen-year-old girl.

He pleaded guilty.

Police Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah, prosecuting, told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo said that the complainant, Agnes Kumah, lived with her daughter at Esuoso in the same vicinity with the convict who is popularly known as Rasta.

He said about a month ago the convict came to seek permission from the complainant to perch his hut in her compound which she agreed and has since been living with them.

Inspector Amponsah said about two weeks ago, the victim reported to the complainant that the offender held her breast in her absence and she warned him to desist from such acts.

According to the Prosecutor, on June 6, 2012 the complainant left the victim and her three younger siblings at home and around 0830 hours, she had a tip off that Raymond had defiled the victim around their well and that both parties had been sent to the Nsuta police station.

He said the complainant proceeded to the police station to verify what had happened, and was given a medical form to send the victim to the Tarkwa government hospital for proper examination.

Inspector Amponsah said the medical officer in his examination detected that the victim had been defiled.
