Asamoah or Atsu for Stars No. 10 shirt

The debate as to who to wear the coveted Black Stars no. 10 jersey has suddenly come up again with the AFCON 2013 tournament.

The debate continues to rage on with many local football pundits arguing that “Juventus star, Kwadwo Asamoah should inherit the famous jersey he vacated for Dede Ayew that stirred so much controversy some time ago.

They base their argument on the fact that Asamoah has been Ghana’s consistent performer in Europe this season and will be the Black Stars’ playmaker who will dictate the team’s play just behind Asamoah Gyan.

Others too are of the opinion that youth prodigy Christian Atsu should be given the no. 10 shirt to showcase his budding talent to the world.

They argue that Atsu has come of age and is currently an indispensable member of Kwesi Appiah’s squad and should be given the responsibility of the playmaker’s role to strut his stuff.

Others however believe that is too soon to place such a ‘gargantuan’ responsibility on the FC Porto precocious winger who is trying to find his feet in the senior national team.

The touchy subject of how to wear the no. 10 jersey has always been a thorny issue that stairs up emotions ever since Stephen Appiah retired from the Black Stars.

With Dede out of the AFCON, it is left to be seen who will don the nation’s favourite shirt.
