Violence kills Napo’s presidential ambition

There are a number of gurus in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who are busily nurturing presidential ambitions for the 2016 general elections, believing strongly that the current presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo will not be able to beat President John Dramani Mahama in tomorrow’s presidential elections.

One of such men is the Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, alias Napo, whose recent gun violence behavior has exposed him to the outside world, killing his presidential ambition that was spurred on by his grandfather, ex-President John Kufuor. An ambition that has become a threat to the Akyem bloc in the NPP.

The 44-year-old MP, with thugs last Thursday, in a door-to-door campaign in Ashtown, a suburb of the Manhyia Constituency of the Ashanti Region, ended up in a shooting incidence injuring two National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters.

One of the MP’s victims, 24-year-old Mohammed Ziblim, is at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), receiving treatment. His sister, Jamila Ziblim, was also injured with a machete slash.

Friends of his say he is being groomed to be the NPP presidential candidate by ex-president John Kufuor, should the venture with Alan Kyeremanten (Alan Cash) botch. But the MP’s overzealousness and penchant to appear boisterous, leading to the gun violence, have dealt a blow to the presidential ambition.

Even at a tender age, Dr. Prempeh has twice divorced two women already. The women, according to The Herald’s information from family sources, suffered marital violence from the legislator, who ironically was a strong advocate for the domestic violence law.

One of the women, The Herald is informed, is related to Mr. Kojo Bonsu of ‘Agoo Magazine’ and sportswear, Adidas, fame.

In one of his usual wife beating adventure, Dr. Prempeh threw implements at his wife in the full glare of a colleague MP, name withheld for now.

Showing this high level of violence, The Herald has therefore taken the trouble to go into the life of Napo, also called Baby MP, and its revealing.

On the same day of shooting the incident, Napo, around 7:09pm, sent two life threatening messages to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Food and Drugs Board (FDB) Dr. Stephen Opuni, claiming his 20 year old friend was planning to eliminate him.

Indeed, due to his 2016 presidential ambition, Napo is using the Nana Akufo-Addo’s campaign, for which he has been appointed as director of elections, to attract every attention to himself instead of his party’s presidential candidate.

Inside NPP circles, information has it that for the 2016 presidential primaries, the Kufuor bloc intends putting up Napo and Alan Kyeremanten, with the hope of dropping one of them to enable the other lead the NPP as its presidential candidate.

A member of the NPP and proud member from the Alan Cash camp, ‘Appiah Stadium’ hinted on Agoo FM, last Monday that NAPO was busily preparing the grounds for his presidential ambition towards 2016 and that his posters, banners, T-shirts and other party paraphernalia were already done and parked at his home in Kumasi.

Sometime last year, one of his Constituency executives accused him of leading thugs to beat him up at a meeting in Kumasi. His crime was that he had said that the Manhyia MP was failing his constituents.

Time will tell if NAPO will stand a chance of winning the hearts of majority of the NPP delegates, come 2016, as their presidential candidate, considering what the current flagbearer, Akufo-Addo, has done to his own campaign and the NPP after his “all die be die” statement.

The text message read from Napo to Dr. Opunu read: “Boss we all have one life. If your plans have extended to take mine, then watch out. We will speak at my press conference tomorrow and we will see. All those guns and men and combats boots and those picking them up will be exposed tomorrow.

It is not only Kumasi that will be unsafe. So will your house and hometowns, and families and hiding place will go overboard. I have reported this to the police”.

He had promised in the text message to expose the secret agenda of the FDB boss and the ruling NDC, but up till date no one has heard from him as he has gone into hibernation.
