NI Highway now market hub

The late President, John Evans Atta Mills commissioned the George Walker Bush highway in February this year.

During the commissioning he issued a strong warning to traders who had been compensated to relocate their businesses from the shoulders of the highway not to return or face severe punishment.

President Mills is no more, but the reality on the ground is that pavement along the George Walker Bush Highway is gradually turning into a vibrant market.

The N1 Highway has become a trading hub once again. Before the construction of the N1 Highway, there were some feasibility studies to check on those traders who were likely to be affected as a result of the construction, to pave way for expansion.

They were duly compensated and moved from the road.

However, nine months after the highway was commissioned, business is briskly going on.

The late president, John Evans Atta-Mills issued a directive to deal ruthlessly with workers who returned to the highway after compensations were paid to them.

There were some who also thought the amount of money given to them as compensation was willfully inadequate to effect any relocation.
