Worldreader needs your help to win $1 MILLION grant

Worldreader is a non-profit organization based in Ghana that provides children with easy access to digital books in their native languages and in English, in places where access to printed materials is extremely limited or prohibitively expensive.

To accomplish this, Worldreader partners with governments (Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, Bureau of Ghana Languages), NGOs, organizations, schools, teachers, school administrators, e- reader manufacturers, and book publishers. Our ultimate goal is to transform publishing and reading in the developing world.

With the help of our partners and supporters, we have in a very short time distributed nearly 200,000 e-books to over 1,200 children in sub-Saharan Africa. We operate in Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, and (soon) Rwanda. We are in substantive discussions with major stakeholders in Liberia, and all across Africa.

We have the infrastructure in place to grow 400% in 2012; funding is our most critical resource.

So why do we need your help....

JP Morgan Chase has chosen us as a finalist charity for a million-dollar grant, to be announced at this year's American Giving Awards.  But to win, we have to get tons of votes (that's a technical term) on Facebook, starting in a week.  The easy part is the process-- a matter of couple clicks on  this Facebook page from November 27 - December 4.

But the hard part is that because we're only two years old (and we focus more energy on impact than on marketing) and our community is small. So the only way we win is if we activate an enormous group of supporters to vote for us, starting next week.

That's where we need your help.  If you vote and ask your friends to support us, they'll do so, and we'll win.  We will be able to provide more e-books to students all over Ghana. We truly can't do it without you.   Thank you for your support
