Four parliamentary candidates debate in Dormaa

Four out of five parliamentary candidates vying for the Dormaa Central parliamentary seat have engaged in a three-hour debate at Dormaa-Ahenkro to lay bare their policies on education, agriculture and job creation.

The debate was organised by the Dormaa Central Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE).

They incumbent NPP Member of Parliament Mr Kwaku Agyemang Manu, Mr Alexander Yeboah, Convention People’s Party (CPP), Professor Kwame Agyenim-Boateng of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Mr Ampomah Kumi of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) participated while the candidate for National Democratic Party (NDP), Mr Appiah Boateng did not attend.

While each of them admitted that much was not being done to harness the municipality’s numerous resources for development, they proposed various ways to improve upon the status of agriculture, education and unemployment.

Each singled out the growing poultry industry in Dormaa and pledged to champion the cause of poultry farmers to help them improve and provide employment for the youth.

They also pledged their commitment to peace and therefore urged their followers to handle the remaining period of the campaign with maturity and decorum.

Mr Kwaku Adinkra-Kosopre, Dormaa Central Municipal NCCE Director, said the debate was organised to introduce the candidates to the electorate and to buttress the importance for the candidates to make their campaign issues-based rather than personality and ethnic centred.

Okatakyie Ansu Gyeabour, Chairman of the Municipal Inter-Party Dialogue Committee, appealed to the candidates to respect the rules of the electoral processes.

He reiterated the Dormaa Traditional Council’s commitment to peace and urged persons and groups who might contemplate violence and chaos during the elections to change their mind-set.
