I have no plans to prevent Ghanaians from voting - Woyome

Embattled businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome has dismissed allegations that he is planning to prevent legally registered Ghanaians mainly from the Volta Region from casting their votes in the December polls.

In a statement by Mr. Woyome, he categorically stated that "I have never been, and will never be involved in any activity that undermines the rule of law in my beloved country, Ghana! Nor would I do anything that would deny any duly registered Ghanaian his or her inalienable right to exercise their universal free suffrage and vote according to their conscience."

Below is the full statement by Alfred Woyome.

It has come to my knowledge that certain people at the high echelons of National Security and their cowardly collaborators at the seat of Government have fabricated and started fanning a series of vicious and most incredible lies about me and circulating these figments of their imagination within the Volta Region.

It has been alleged that one Col. Dapaah and I have formed a task force and stationed them along the Ghana- Togo border to prevent legitimate Ghanaian voters, who reside across the border in Togo, from entering Ghana to exercise their legitimate franchise during the December 2012 elections.

I must say that this is in synchrony with similar wicked and unfounded allegations made against me by the same clique of people; allegations which have become the subject of several cases which are ongoing in the courts of Ghana: And cases which I intend to follow through to their logical and legally-founded conclusions so as to avail all Ghanaians of the truth regarding all those vile accusations.

I hereby categorically state that I have never been, and will never be involved in any activity that undermines the rule of law in my beloved country, Ghana! Nor would I do anything that would deny any duly registered Ghanaian his or her inalienable right to exercise their universal free suffrage and vote according to their conscience. Indeed, I hold the view that no one should be prevented from casting their vote in the upcoming elections and in subsequent presidential and parliamentary elections.

I absolutely and vehemently reject any suggestion that I am part of any such activity and urge all Ghanaians to ignore these wicked lies and fabrications!

I would conclude this Statement by thanking all Churches and Christians, and also Muslims who, by the grace of God, have been there for me during the past 12 months.

I also thank the Chiefs and people of Ghana, together with friends from all walks of life, not forgetting the various NDC Party faithful from across the length and breadth of the country, who have also shown tremendous love and concern through these trying times in my life.

Only God can bless and reward you abundantly for being there for me during these difficult and challenging moments of my life spanning one full year [as of a little over a week ago], which have seen an intense barrage of calculated, unpalatable and concocted lies and commentary in the mass media; all designed to denigrate me and assassinate my hard-won reputation and character.

I am firm in my conviction that my hour of vindication is not far off and I look forward to that time, with great anticipation.

In the mean time, I wish us all a peaceful election period and God’s blessing in all that we do.
