Amoafo-Yeboah attacks free SHS promise

An independent presidential candidate in the 2008 general elections, Mr. Kwesi Amoafo-Yeboah is the latest to attack the New Patriotic Party’s free Senior High School Promise.
Mr. Yeboah says it is unappealing and encourages poverty. The businessman says though he is not opposed to social interventions he finds the free SHS policy proposed by the NPP to be one that will damage the country.
“You don’t want people to begin to feel and think that all they have to do is live and government will handle everything for them. When you do that people’s sense of entitlements increase, it becomes a burden on society, and then they themselves believing that they don’t have to do anything, remain poor. That is what the cycle of poverty is all about.”
Mr. Amoafo-Yeboah yesterday at a press conference lent his support to President John Mahama of the NDC citing reasons such as accessibility and the “viable policies” President Mahama is promising Ghanaians.
He also finds the Institute of Economic Affairs’ exclusion of some parties from their debates unacceptable and felt Dr. Paa Kwasi Nduom for instance shouldn’t have been excluded.
