NPP only know God in opposition - NDC Secretary

The Ashanti region Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress Joseph Yamin(NDC) has accused the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) of only seeking the face of God when they are in opposition but abandon the Almighty when they win political office.

Mr Yamin says the NPP’s attitude of ‘toying’ with God will not inure to its benefit, and just like Jonah in biblical times, the Ghanaian electorate will reject the NPP come December 7, 2012.

Speaking Monday on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show a day after the NPP organised a Praise and Prayer Festival at the Baba Yara stadium in Kumasi to seek God’s face and blessing ahead of the December poll, Mr Yamin said people in the Ashanti region, the traditional stronghold of the opposition party had rejected the party because it had not shown respect to God.

‘In 2000 when NPP was in opposition, they were singing (Cindy Thompson’s) Awurade Kasa everywhere, people were crying and the NPP was using it to solicit funds. But when they won, in 2004 it was Kufuor nie, Osono nie. In 2008 it was Lumba singing, and Nana Akufo-Addo was dancing Azonto. Today they are in opposition they are singing gospel again.’

However, the General Secretary of the NPP, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie aka ‘Sir John’ dismissed Mr Yamin’s claim, saying the governing party had been shaken by the large number of people who attended the NPP prayer festival. It was held under the theme ‘Jericho Shall Fall.’

In another development, the Ashanti region branch of the NDC has expressed disgust at the alleged assault of one of its members by an NPP activist.

Hopeson Adorye Kesse, a member of the NPP Communications team allegedly assaulted Donkor Fuseini, a member of the NDC on a live radio programme on Kumasi based Kessben FM on Saturday evening following a disagreement over what they perceived as a twisting of the facts.

Confirming the party’s intention to hold a press conference on Dwaso Nsem, Joseph Yamin, Ashanti region NDC Secretary of NDC, said the alleged assault victim, Fuseini Donkor will be at the media interaction with his treated wounds to show the assault claim was not a fabrication.

However, Hopeson Adorye claims Fuseini Donkor described him as ‘bush man who had left Accra to come and say things here,’ provoking him to anger. He also claims Fuseini Donkor threw the first punch, which he swerved.

NPP General Secretary Sir John has promised a full apology if the assault claim is proved to be accurate.
