Andre Ayew makes Caf's 10-man shortlist

Andre Ayew is the only Ghanaian representative on the 10-man shortlist for the 2012 African Player of the Year award after Caf announced the latest nominees on Sunday.

CAF’s Technical, Football and Media committees decided on the current shortlists which excludes the Black Stars duo of Emmanuel Agyemang Badu and Kwadwo Asamoah who were on the initial 34 nominees.

Last year, Andre was second-runner up behind Yaya, who is still in the running for the top award.

The other nominees are Didier Drogba, Alexander Song, Demba Ba, Gervais Lombe Yao Kouassi, John Obi Mikel, Younes Belhanda, Christopher Katongo and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

According to Caf, the list will now be passed on to head coaches and technical directors from CAF member associations whose votes will decide the eventual winners.

The list will be whittled down as CAF will announce the top three in the last week of November before the final announcement of the winner on December 20 in Accra, Ghana.

For the Player of the Year in Africa category, Ghana's quartet of Emmanuel Clottey and Harrison Afful, both of Esperance, Razak Yakubu of Sudanese side Al Ahly Shandy and Berekum Chelsea's Solomon Asante have all missed out of the award.

Five players are in the running for Africa- based Player of the Year.
