Kunbour snubs PAC over Woyome cash

Dr. Benjamin Kunbour has refused to appear before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament to account for the GHC 51 million judgment debt payment to Mr. Alfred Agbesi Woyome, a businessman and Member of the National Democratic Congress(NDC).

The Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Albert Kan-Dapaah, who made the disclosure on Tuesday, described the Attorney General’s position as disastrous and gross disregard of the Committee’s work.

The Attorney General and Minister of Justice in a letter to the committee argued that since the case was still in court, his appearance before the committee to discuss it could affect the outcome of the case.

Consequently, he has reportedly refused to furnish the Committee with any document relating to the payment.

Mr. Kunbour, according to reports, has up to Wednesday October 24, to appear or furnish the Committee with all documents related to the case else he will be subpoenaed through the Speaker of Parliament.

Mr. Kan-Dapaah said: “the AG has absolutely no right to refuse to appear before the committee” and should have gone to the Supreme Court to immunize himself from the case.”

He further expressed his gratitude to the witness Mr. Woyome for accepting to submit himself to the Committee "in spite of the views he holds.”
