MOH Responds Positively To Times Publication

Following the “Ghanaian Times” publication on the shortage of medical doctors at the Nsawam Government Hospital, the Eastern Regional Health directorate has posted one doctor and recalled another to assist the only doctor at post.

In addition, the Health Directorate has ordered the immediate referral of the two out of service incubators to the Biomedical Engineering Unit of the Ghana Health Services in Accra.

Responding to questions posed by the “Ghanaian Times” in a follow up to the stories published on September 18, 2012, Dr. Kofi Ablorh, the Hospital Superintendent said the doctor who was posted and the other who was recalled had helped to lessen the burden at the hospital.

“I was then the only doctor attending to an average of between 350 and 400 patients daily”, he said adding “with the addition of the two doctors, the doctor-to-patient ratio has greatly been improved”.

Touching on the two incubators at the Paediatric Department of the hospital which has been out of service, Dr Ablorh said the Regional Directorate had referred the machines to the Bio-medical Engineering Unit of the Ghana Health Service.

He said the suppliers, Hansa Limited, had also been contacted to help with the situation.
