President Mahama In London

The President, His Excellency, John Dramani Mahama has assured supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that even though the party has very short period between his swearing-in as President and the December elections for campaigning, he was optimistic that the party will win this year’s elections.
Speaking at a meeting with members of the United Kingdom and Ireland branch of the party in London last Saturday, September 29, 2012 where he had made a stop-over from the United Nations, President Mahama said the task ahead was not going to be easy, saying “this will mean head work for all of us”.
The President said he was calling for hard work by members of the party because while they were busy attending to national duties, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has toured the country seven times, hence the call for the NDC to double up its campaign tours.
He noted that because the NPP had no message for Ghanaians on their campaign tours, they have become desperate and in their desperation resorted to insults and lies about the NDC and the Presidency.
The NDC administration, President Mahama said, has done enough work around the country and deserve to be given another mandate to finish the “Better Ghana” agenda started by the party.
The 1992 constitution, he said makes it compulsory for every administration to make basic education free and therefore no Ghanaian should be deceived that Nana Akufo Addo and the NPP were doing something new, “they are not introducing free education because the NDC government is already implementing that requirements in the country’s constitution, the President added.
President Mahama said, conscious of the educational needs of the country, the NDC in the past three years have been building schools all over the country, saying “as soon as we are satisfied with the educational infrastructure, we would move on to the next phase of making secondary education free throughout the country”.
The NDC administration, he said as at this year has built 4,300 schools in its attempt at eliminating schools under trees and the shift system throughout the country, most of the roads left unfinished by the NPP have been completed, with the gas pipeline coming on stream, the country’s energy requirement is improving, food prices have stabilised with improvement in Agriculture whilst despite the forthcoming elections, the cedi has been stabilised by measures put in place by the Bank of Ghana.
Earlier that morning, the “John Mahama for President” fan club was launched in London with thousands of NDC members in attendance by the Chairman of the UK and Ireland branch of the NDC, Mr. Hoarse Ankrah.
Mr. Malik Dramani Mahama, who is the patron of the Club appealed to supporters of Club and members of the party not to be complacent in their fight for the party to retain power.
