NPP targets 85 per cent votes in Ashanti

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has targeted to win at least 85 per cent of votes in the Ashanti Region, a major stronghold of the party, in the December general polls.

The NPP won 74 percent of votes in the 2008 elections but Mr Samuel Pyne, the Regional Secretary, predicted the figure was going to shoot up.

He said the twin-factors of the party’s effective electioneering campaign and the poor performance of the government were winning for them more votes.

Mr. Pyne was addressing enthusiastic supporters of the party in the Bosomtwe Constituency at a rally held Abono.

He, however, counseled against complacency and asked the followers to accept to work hard and make the necessary sacrifices to bring the NPP back to political power.

They should move from house-to-house to explain the party’s election manifesto to voters.

Mr. Kwame Antwi Boasiako, the Constituency Chairman, urged the people to ignore what he termed “the ugly noises and desperate attempts” by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to discredit the free Senior High School (SHS) promise by NPP.

“It is not just a campaign tool to win elections; we’re surely going to make it happen, when given the mandate by the good people of Ghana to lead nation,” he said and added that the party would live up to the expectation of voters by transforming the economy to create jobs and wealth for them.
