Chief appeals to government to close down drinking bars on December 7

Osabarima Kwame Otu Dartey III, Mamponghene, has appealed to the government to close down all drinking bars throughout the country on December 7 to prevent those who would like to drink alcohol to foment trouble on the election day from doing so.

Osabarima Kwame Otu Dartey said this step, when taken, would provide a peaceful atmosphere for both voters and the officials of the Electoral Commission to conduct a violence-free election.

He made the call during the celebration of the Ohum/Odwura festival by the chiefs and people of Mampong-Akuapem.

He said work would soon begin on the construction of a market and a KVIP in the town.

Mr. Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, said in pursuit of the ‘Better Ghana Agenda’, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government through the local governance institutions has facilitated the provision of massive development programmes and projects throughout the country.

He mentioned some of the projects in the Akuapem North District to include the provision of 30 boreholes, classroom blocks, dormitories, teachers’ quarters and over 8,000 classroom furniture, to improve the environment for teaching and learning.

Mr. Terlabi said the government would ensure that the forthcoming election was free and fair.
