Frank Agyekum pisses on 'Mosquito' over Kufuor

Spokesperson of Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has waded into the alleged attack on his boss by the general secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) saying, Mr. Kufuor would continue to speak on issues of national importance.

Frank Agyekum reacting to claims by Johnson Asiedu Nketia that the former president's views were not needed by the Electoral Commission (EC) before creating new constituencies explained that Mr. Kufuor sort to advice the EC to prevent any electoral violence in December.

Former President Kufuor last Saturday is reported to have cautioned the EC from going ahead with the creation of the 45 constituencies when addressing party faithful at the manifesto launch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Accra.

But Asiedu Nketia, popularly referred to as “General Mosquito” took a swipe at the former president while addressing NDC supporters in Kumasi on Thursday.

Mr. Agyekum said the former president was just adding his voice to the numerous calls for the EC to postpone the actualization of the 45 constituencies for the sake of peace and stability.

“Mr. Kufuor is saying that we have an electoral process and everybody now is settled with the 230 constituencies that we have and it will not be realistic for the EC to begin to introduce new things that do not meet with the consensus of the people and this could cause chaos,” Mr. Agyekum told an Accra based radio station on Friday.

He added that he could not fathom why the NDC appears to be the only political party that is in favour of the creation of the constituencies, stressing that the stance of the NDC raises serious concerns.

“So all what Mr. Kufuor is saying is don’t let us do things which we may regret later on...and so if somebody like Asiedu Nketia says what he is saying, then it is very pathetic because President Kufuor has been part of constituency creation matters from Kenya through Sierra Leone, Liberia and Ivory Coast, so he knows and understands these things,” he affirmed.
