No financial loss in Ghana@50 celebrations - Wereko Brobbey

The Chief Executive Officer of the defunct Ghana@50 Secretariat, Dr. Charles Wereko Brobbey insists Ghana made profits from the golden jubilee celebration rather than incurred debt or caused financial loss to the state as speculated widely.

Dr. Wereko Brobbey who appeared before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee answered a litany of questions concerning alleged impropriety on the part of the Secretariat in organizing the celebration which started in July 2006 and ended its work in 2008.

Some of the Committee members said Dr. Wereko Brobbey muddied the waters rather clarified issues.

But he maintained that he caused the state no losses. He begun by faulting the Auditor General’s report which he said was lopsided.

“I believe that if the auditor-general staff had taken our advice and examined records which are still there to this day, they would have realized that due processes were observed in all our transactions” Dr. Wereko Brobbey said.

He added that “I want to place it on records that the state did not make any losses, the money we spent we made a surplus on”.
