A CALL FOR UNITY IN GHANA WOULD BE USELESS! IF NANA AKUFO ADDO IS NOT GIVEN THE NEEDED RECOGNITION AS OPPOSITION LEADER

The unfortunate death of the late Professor John Evans Atta Mills has brought people from all walks of life together; he has been eulogized by many; including the clergy, political parties, various groups, individuals, just to mention a few, for dedicating himself for mother Ghana.

One significant thing that many are calling for; is the maintenance of peace and unity in the country. Especially before, during and after the December elections. Even though Ghana was not at war when the late Professor took over office in January 2009, we believe that the call for peace and unity is in the right direction.

But the first unfortunate and irresponsible statement was made by no less a person than the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia; that, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is sharing ‘crocodile tears’ over Mills’ death. This would certainly not bring peace and unity in this country, if we want to live together as brothers and sisters.
Another unfortunate incident occurred at the State House, where our late President Mills was laid. During the file past by the NPP delegation, which included the Presidential Candidate, Nana Akufo Addo, his running mate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his wife, Samira and the National Chairman, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey; the GTV crew, according to Daily Guide report, refused to capture Nana Akufo Addo upon instructions from a member of the NDC Communication Team. For reason, many were those who could not see Nana Addo on our State Television. This has triggered insult on some Radio stations; that Nana Addo had refused to attend the funeral of his late friend, Professor Mills.
It would be recalled that the NPP Presidential Candidate, Nana Akufo Addo was denied access to Volta Star Radio, a state-run FM station by the GBC’s Volta Region management, during his “thank you” tour in the Volta Region.
This attitude of the State owned broadcaster is a recipe for derailing the path of peace and unity that Nana Akufo himself, the clergy and the International Community had been calling for. If we would put aside antagonism and hypocrisy in this country, the nation would move forward beyond expectation. Taking into account the resources God has bestowed in our land.
By this statement, we are calling on the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) boss, to investigate the incident and make a public declaration on the matter. Likewise, henceforth, all state owned media houses must give equal coverage to all political parties in this country especially the opposition parties and avoid biased reportage, and learn to speak the truth. We believe this would facilitate the peace and unity that we are all calling for.
Also we are calling on our clergy and Muslim Leaders, to speak out, any time there is something wrong politically, since they are the ones God is using to direct this nation into Godliness. They must not wait for things to go worst in the country before they come out.
