Professional Footballers Association of Ghana mourns Mills

Accra, July 30, GNA – The Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) has expressed regret about the shocking demise of the President, Prof. John Evans Atta Mills.

The former 'First Gentleman' of the country passed away last Tuesday (July 24) at the 37 Military Hospital after taken ill.

A statement signed by Anthony Baffoe, General Secretary of the Association, copied to GNA Sports, described the passing away of the former President as a big blow to the whole country and especially the sports fraternity as he was a keen sportsman and fan.

“The late President took a keen interest in sports. He loved football and was once the chairman of the Black Stars management Committee.

“Throughout his career, he contributed positively to the careers of many sports personalities including footballers and motivated them to attain greater heights. He was proactive and attuned to the needs of footballers,” said Baffoe.

The statement added “his trademark of warmth extended to players and other members of the football fraternity” will be missed.

“On behalf of all our members, I would like to extend our condolences to his wife, son and the rest of his family,” the statement concluded.

The former President Mills served in various sporting capacities including lead positions at the National Sports Council (now National Sports Authority) and the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and was a keen hockey player.
