Prostitute intoxicates baby with ‘Apio’

A 24-year-old prostitute, Sally Brakis Koompong, has been arrested by the Ashanti Regional Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Police Service, for allegedly, intoxicating her under one-year-old child with ‘akpeteshie’, a locally-brewed gin.

The suspect, a resident of Daaban Apramang, a suburb of Kumasi, made her child drink the gin whenever she went out to ply her trade.

According to the DOVVSU commander, Superintendent David Kwaku Amoako, she would be arraigned and charged with exposing a child to harm, contrary to section 276 (71) of the Criminal Offenses Act.

The accused told the police that, she plied her trade around the Vienna City night club area in Kumasi, and that, she usually left the child at home since she could not take her along.

She disclosed that she earned GH¢50 and above per client, per day from her trade.

The complainant, according to the police, got hint of Brakis’ act from the women she had been buying the ‘akpeteshie’ from, and consequently, informed the DOVVSU about it. This had led to the arrest of Brakis for investigations.

The little baby had skin rashes all over her body with sores around the genitals.

Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional DOVVSU commander was appealing for public support to apprehend one Cecilia Oppong, who was alleged to be engaged in lesbianism and was recruiting people into the trade.

She is believed to be about 40 years and hiding in Kumasi.

The DOVVSU commander advised parents to monitor the movements of their children to prevent them from falling into such circumstances.
