Jordan Ayew sets conditions for Marseille stay

Olympique Marseille and Ghana’s striker Jordan Ayew is once again demanding for assurance of more playing time from new Marseille coach Elie Baup as the new Ligue 1 season starts or be forced to look elsewhere.

Jordan was heavily tipped for a loan spell just at the end of the past season but his club Marseille last month ruled out any move bearing in mind that his contract runs out next summer and a possible loan move could end up in Marseille losing the player on a free at the end of next season.

In September 2011, footy-Ghana.com reported of a similar demand by the striker to the then coach Didier Deschamps but this time the young Ghanaian is threatening to leave the club by the end of the transfer window if he does not receive assurances of being featured more in the coming season.

“I'm not here to sit on a bench. I want to be trusted and allowed to play as a starter whether at Marseille or elsewhere. Until the end of the transfer window (September 4) anything can happen,” Jordan said.

However, new Marseille coach Elie Baup has in a press conference mildly reacted to Jordan’s request maintaining the striker features in his plans for the coming season.

“Jordan is someone who I will of course count on. After, it all depends on how he interprets his playing time; if he wants to do all the licensed games, I don't know. It is perhaps possible, but we really need him. "Game time? He is going to ...,” said the new Marseille coach.

At 20 years, the young brother of Andre Ayew last season featured in 34 league games, including 17 as a starter, 6 appearances in the Champions League, 3 Cup matches in France and a match League Cup not to mention the Champions Trophy making a total of 45 games.
