I Should Have Married At Age 19 - Afia Schwarzenegger

Nana Hemaa Acheampong, lead character in the ‘Afia Schwarzenegger’ television drama series, has opened up about how her dreams of getting married at age 19 was shattered by the very fiancé she was to have gotten married to.

“I should have married at age 19. The guy was my childhood friend and we were really in love, or so I thought, but he broke my heart.

Most of the time, you read about true love or watch them in movies and you never know what it means.

But I was young. He was someone I grew up with but the relationship did not go the way we both expected but I am happily married now and I have no regrets,” Nana Hemaa disclosed on national television when she appeared as guest on the award-winning television talk show, ‘Delay’, hosted by Delores Frimpong Manso.

According to Nana Hemaa, there was no need revealing the identity of the guy who broke her heart because it was in the past and moreover she was now married to the love of her life and they were living happily together.

“I am married now you know, and my man is a man every lady would want to have.

I am not saying this because I am married to him but he is the best guy for me. He understands me very well. God gave him to me.

“People judge me based on my outward appearance or what I do on TV. But my man is the best person who knows me best.

He is the only person who could touch my heart and know the soft parts and the hard parts. He knows me more than anybody.

He knows my high and low moments,” Nana Hemaa noted.

Indeed, the ‘Afia Schwarzenegger’ lead actress is now known as Mrs. Nana Hemaa Ofori Amissah and she is enjoying her marriage. When asked whether she would soon be making babies, she said making babies now was out of the question though she and her man bonked a lot.

“I’m not giving birth now. Babies would come later. I have a husband who is so understanding and he knows the type of job I do and he has agreed that babies would come later.

I also have to go back to school so we are not making babies now,” she explained.

She gave an insight into her childhood and upbringing: “My parents gave birth to me early because they married early.

They were like teenagers when they gave birth to me so you know how they would treat their first born. I had a very good education.

I started from Morning Star then to Central International School in Kumasi then to Winneba Senior High and then Accra Polytechnic.”

Currently, she works as an administrative assistant with Zachem Engineering Company and is host of Adom Billboard, an entertainment programme on Adom 106.3 FM

Nana Hemaa expressed her thoughts on the role she played in ‘Afia Schwarzenegger’.

“I signed a very good contract and the show has given me a good platform to get to places.

On my wedding day for instance, a lot of people did things freely for me because I act in ‘Afia Schwarzenegger’.

“It was very difficult at the beginning. Sometimes people talk about you in a very negative way and it was very hurting but my god-father, Bola Ray, really encouraged me a lot.

He shared his life experience with me and that really strengthened me.

At the end of the day, my parents accepted what I am doing; my fiancé was cool with it and today here I am.

Even my harshest critics now actually offer me ideas,” Nana Hemaa noted.**
